Performance testing of oil spill skimmers (NT CHEM 002)

Abstract

  This document describes a methodology for collecting quantitative performance data for oil spill skimmers. The methodology applies to testing in a basin with controllable current and waves; and requires control of oil properties and oil slick characteristics. The method is applicable to all skimmer sizes provided that the dimensions are within the physical limitations of the test basin. The test procedure provides full-scale test results for the unit tested. The method does not provide any scaling to conditions outside those in which testing is performed. Care should be taken when extrapolating test results to field conditions.
