Abstract

The request for “healthy” building products from authorities and consumers has increased during the last decade. Therefore, there is a demand for harmonised testing according to relevant standardised methods for chemical and sensory (odour) emission testing of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds), including genuine interlaboratory comparisons that validate the methods, and laboratory procedures and conditions. The Round Robin of this project was concentrated on chemical emission testing by use of the Field and Laboratory Emission Cell (FLEC). The purpose of the project was to harmonise chemical emission testing in the Nordic countries in order to define a uniform test procedure, test conditions, and reporting. The project was based on the existing and future international standard test methods in this field:
  • NT BUILD 438: “Building Materials: Emission of volatile compounds – Field and Laboratory Emission Cell (FLEC)”
  • prENV 13419 Part 2: “Building products – Determination of the emission of volatile organic compounds – Emission test cell method”.
