  • The water diffusion coefficient of concrete repair materials and protecting coatings is determined by a laboratory test in which transfer of water occurs under the influence of differences in relative humidity. The diffusion coefficient is calculated on the basis of the loss of weight from a diffusion cell.

  • This paper describes a laboratory procedure for determining the coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete repair mortars. The specimens are exposed to temperatures ranging from +5 ºC to +60 ºC. For each change of temperature, the longitudinal expansion is recorded.

  • This test determines the acid resistivity of solvent-based and water-based organic paints on concrete surfaces. The concrete test specimens are coated with the paints to be tested and then stored in sulphuric acid solutions.

  • The purpose of this test method is to determine the ability of sheathing materials on wood frame walls to resist racking loads. The test is conducted with a standard wood frame wall, and the test objective is the loadbearing performance of the sheathing material and its fastening to the frame.

Concrete, hardened: Water-cement ratio (NT BUILD 361 - Edition 2)

NT BUILD 361

  • This NORDTEST method can be applied to estimate the water-cement ratio (W/C ratio) in hardened concrete, using microscopic investigation of thin sections. The method includes two impregnation techniques, vacuum impregnation with fluorescent epoxy and impregnation using the Fluorescent Liquid Replacement (FLR) technique. The latter technique supplements the epoxy impregnation at lower W/C-ratios. FLR technique is not applicable above W/C = 0.50.

  • The resistance against CO2-penetration through concrete repairing materials and concrete protective coating is determined by an accelerated laboratory test on laboratory prepared samples by exposing the samples to carbon dioxide enriched air in order to evaluate the effect of concrete repairing materials. The depth of CO2-penetration is measured by the phenolphthalein method.

  • The chloride ion permeability of concrete repairing materials and concrete protective coating is determined by an accelerated laboratory test where a direct current voltage is applied between a steel rod embedded into the specimen and the specimen surface in order to evaluate the effect of concrete repairing materials.

  • The steady state chloride ion diffusion coefficient of concrete, mortar and cement based repair materials is determined by an accelerated laboratory test method. The amount of chloride vs. time passing through a porous material exposed to a constant direct voltage is measured after steady state is reached, in order to calculate a chloride diffusion coefficient.
